Phoenix - Rise Up 20

(20 Year Commemorative Remixes)

Back in 1995, a collaboration between DJ & House Producer Scott Latham and Spencer Hickson, aka Desyfer birthed 'Phoenix', with the goal of creating a track for DJ Sasha.

Phoenix's debut EP ‘Rise Up’ was released on Solid Silver Recordings in 1995 and garnered huge support from Sasha who opened his sets with it throughout the year, including featuring the track on the Radio 1 Essential Mix.

On 12th September 1996 however, the world lost a true genius, gentleman & friend. Scott Latham sadly died. He was a celebrated figure in the dance community, the passion and talent Scott had for music inspired so many people and his contributions continue to resonate today.

Commemorating the 10th anniversary of Scott leaving us, Phoenix’s ‘Rise Up’ was revised and re-released in 2007 when it was immediately signed by new label, Northern Exposure Recordings, sister label to Hooj Choons/Solaris Recordings. The track featured as Northern Exposure’s debut release with a special vinyl run. Championed by John Digweed, the D Dub remix aired at Space/Ibiza, SW4/London & The Warehouse Project/Manchester where it featured once again on the Radio 1 Essential Mix.

Now in 2016/2017 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Scott's passing, TACTAL HOTS have commissioned several new remixes to mark the occasion. First up comes a remix from TILT, a group that has been heavily involved in the Progressive House scene since its inception. TILT turn out an acid-tinged remix that takes the euphoric original in a much more dark direction with haunting vocals.

The next remix comes from frequent collaborator Fletch under his new pseudonym FOTN, who's latest track was picked up by Global Underground to feature on their upcoming GU TWENTY release. FOTN's remix is a tough, acid-fuelled techno interpretation, blending modern and classic elements to bring the track up to date.

Finally the third remix in the package is from AXOR, who delivers an old-school house interpretation that provides a modern take while maintaining the vibe of the original.
