James is an experimental composer/multi-instrumentalist based in Edinburgh. He plays in the band OPUL (a mixture of electronica & spoken word) and was a founding member of the post-rock strings outfit Lipsync For A Lullaby & math-rock trio Vasquez. James has performed as a live musician all over the UK and in 2010 won Scottish Arts Council funding to perform at the Transit Station Festival in Denmark alongside the poet J.L Williams with a live project called Pteria.
His music has been broadcast internationally as part of the Petcha Kucha project and is currently being used by The Traverse Theatre to accompany their monthly TravCast.
James is also formally trained in Indian classical music, specialising in tabla, a north Indian form of percussion. His influences include Zakir Hussain, Ravel, Meshuggah & Aphex Twin.
